Yesterday (Wednesday, May 4, 2016) badass singer Omawumi trended for exciting reasons.
Midway into the interview Omawumi walked out incensed by the ridiculous questions. It wasn’t surprising to see the singer who has a no-nonsense attitude leave the set of the interview. The interviewer was asking daft questions that were leading nowhere.
First of all the questions were insulting. What does Omawumi drinking or smoking have to do with anything? It’s a shame that it was a woman who conducted the interview. Women get the unfair treatment most times in the industry. It was sort of baffling that the female presenter was asking the singer blatantly sexist questions. So much for sympathy amongst women.
Omawumi might be the first Nigerian celebrity (that I can recall) that has walked out of an interview. Her case is not an issue of an ego trip but a refusal to be used by an amateur interviewer to gain cheap points and traffic.
Another celebrity who has stormed out of an interview because he did not like the line of questioning is South African rapper AKA. In October 2015 during the DJ Zinhle-AKA-Bonang Matheba love triangle, the rapper was asked about the hot media personality.
During an interview with News24 Live, AKA walked out when he was asked about Bonang Matheba. AKA spoke to his manager before getting up, and leaving the interview set. Oh just so you know AKA is now open about his relationship with Bonang Matheba.
Last year the ‘Iron Man’ himself Robert Downey Jr. walked out of an interview conducted by Channel 4 News presenter Krishnan Guru. Downey Jr. wasn’t feeling the questions and told the presenter “You seem OK – it’s just getting a little Diane Sawyer.” The interview was to promote the actor’s latest movie but Sawyer had other plans so Robert Downey Jr. opted to walk out.
