Boehner: Clinton could drop out, clear way for Biden
At least that's what former House Speaker John A. Boehner thinks could happen should federal prosecutors opt to slap criminal charges on the former secretary of state over her use of a private email server while in that position.
During a speaking engagement at a conference in Las Vegas, the now-retired Ohio Republican said he "would not be surprised at all" if Clinton "has to withdraw" from the presidential race if she faces charges, according to media reports.
Boehner believes Biden "parachutes in" to take on presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Late last year, Biden seriously considered seeking the Democratic nomination. Ultimately, however, he decided against a run. In October, Biden said the window on that option "has closed."
Biden said he concluded that while he and his family were mourning his son Beau, who died in May.
As for Clinton, many Democratic lawmakers and pundits say that party's presidential front-runner will evade charges, with some saying the federal probe has yet to turn up evidence of intent to disclose classified information or negligence.
